HISTORY

From a single youth squad to a fast-growing multi-team ecosystem, Baguley Athletic Football Club—#TheBadgers—has spent over two decades building a legacy of resilience, community pride, and footballing excellence. This is our track record of success and the journey that brought us to the Manchester League.

our history: the story of #thebadgers

the early spark (2004 – 2007)

The story of Baguley Athletic began in 2004. Born as a breakaway from Woodhouse Park United, the club launched with a single, highly passionate under-14 side. The early years brought immediate and rapid success on the pitch, highlighted by back-to-back promotions and league titles. However, by 2007, the initial chapter drew to a close as the club went on a temporary hiatus.

Rebirth and Expansion (2013 – 2019)

In 2013, Baguley Athletic was officially reborn, returning to the grid as an adult Saturday Morning Team. Under the guidance of Paul Stewart, the new era kicked off in spectacular fashion with a resounding 7–1 debut victory. The momentum was unstoppable; the club rapidly expanded by adding Sunday and Veterans teams, securing vital local sponsorship, and hosting community charity matches. Between 2014 and 2019, the club truly flourished:

  • Achieved multiple promotions across all senior sides.

  • Earned the prestigious FA Charter Standard Status in 2018, recognising the club's exceptional governance, sustainability, and dedication to player safety.

  • Executed a full club re-brand to establish the modern black, white, and yellow identity seen today.

  • Marked the triumphant return of our junior football pipeline with a wave of new youth teams.

Resilience and Ascendancy (2020 – 2024)

Despite a brief, league-wide pause in 2020, Baguley bounced back stronger than ever. A new First Team was formed in 2021, competing in the Lancashire & Cheshire League before quickly stepping up to the Manchester League. A dedicated reserve team and further junior squads quickly followed.

By 2023, the club established a thriving junior hub boasting ten brand-new teams. That exact same year, both the First Team and the Reserves earned hard-fought, simultaneous league promotions with the Firsts gaining a successive promotion to the prestigious Manchester League Premier Division.

The Modern Era (2025 – Present)

The summer of 2025 marked a massive infrastructure milestone for the club. Baguley Athletic secured an exciting new ground-share partnership with Wythenshawe Town, proudly calling the excellent, semi-professional facilities at Ericstan Park home for the 25/26 season.

Today, backed by Club Chairman David Platt and a modernised executive committee, Baguley Athletic stands as a proud FA Charter Standard Club. With a robust structure featuring our Manchester League First Team, a dedicated Development Squad, a pathway into Veterans football, an exciting Under 18s squad, and a brand-new women's team, we are actively writing the most ambitious chapter in our history yet.
